First of all it is an answer to a growing demand for a different type of tourism, where “terroir”, in all its diversity, is a full component of a country, region or territory’s culture.
It is time to value a combination of the “natural” assets of agriculture, craftsmanship and local gastronomy. Yes, our craftsmen’s skills and creativity are legendary as our cooks are truly inventive but also keepers of the Catalan cooking traditions.
Tradition and present-day blend in a subtle way on our sites where history and men managed to preserve and enhance the heritage of our castles, fortresses, chapels, abbeys as well as our landscapes in the sunlight, a luminosity cherished by the famous impressionists at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. |

It also is a support for winegrowers, farmers, craftsmen, hospitality and leisure activity professionals who all share their passion for Catalonia and its culture. These professionals want to demonstrate, with simple words full of truth and emotion, their attachment to the quality and the preservation of a production or a know-how. These professionals guaranty a quality welcoming, they will follow and guide you in your discovery of flavours, aromas and of the typical aspect of our productions – acknowledged by controlled labels, a red label, the AB logo and several Conformity Certifications.
All this in a area where it takes less than two hours to go from the Mediterranean beaches to the Pyrenean mountains. This geographical diversity naturally explains the production diversity : AOC wines, fruits and vegetables in the plains and the piedmonts, cattle-rearing and farming in medium and high mountains. |

Craft, agriculture and tourism companies have come together and pooled their resources to set up a network with an underlying common goal: to preserve and share with you their fondness of local products.
Under the Tourisme de Terroir® trademark, they have rapidly set up a “where to go" network. And, from this year onwards, you are invited to visit their smallholdings, workshops, restaurants and other gîtes, hotels or cultural sites. Or you can opt for one of the thirty of so "Apéritifs de Terroir", which are opportunities to taste local produce hosted by vineyards, farm producers, craftsmen and tourist offices.
And of course, a real must are the many different Tourisme de Terroir® activities in our department's four regions (Terres Romanes, Pyrénées Méditerranée, Agly, Plaine du Roussillon). Whether you are in a group or travelling by yourself, our professionals will help you chose the right visit, sampling of local produce, stroll, route or landscape to delight you.
