The Departmental Tourism Committee and the Cultural Network are committed to developing the Tourism and Disability national label in the Pyrénées-Orientales!
Since 1997, the Secretary of the State for Tourism has focused its approach on raising awareness and encouraging people involved in the tourist sector to ensure that the disabled and accessibility are not overlooked.
In order to meet the requests of this specific clientele, the Tourism and Disability label was created in 2001.
It aims to provide reliable and objective information about the accessibility of the tourist sites and facilities taking into account each type of disability: hearing, mental, physical and visual.
It must also make it possible to raise awareness and ensure the ongoing commitment of tourism professionals (hoteliers, restaurateurs, property owners, camp sites, museums, recreational or sports facilities...) to an approach based on welcoming, ensuring accessibility and information for disabled customers.
In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the Tourism Departmental Committee, the executive branch of the General Council, has volunteered to be the local contact for setting up this national label.
Six people have completed a specific training course for the facilities assessment phase: 3 members from the Tourism Departmental Committee and 3 members of disabled associations. |
